We encourage all candidates to get with graduates from their agencies for training tips, study methods, and any information needed regarding the Flames Course.
The Flames course should not be taken lightly, it is an extreme course that pushes your body to its full potential - and then some. Below are some suggestions for training.
  • Push Ups - 4 count, Sets of 10 
  • Mountain Climbers - 4 count, sets of 10
  • Up-Downs ( Burpees - at jump) - 4 count, sets of 10
  • Jumping Jacks - 4 count, sets of 10
  • 1.5 mile run finishing with a stair climb (3-story tower, 3-4 times up and down)
Alternate days with this routine and Strength Training.
Strength training should be a whole body weight lifting circuit. 
  • Pull ups, Dumbbell presses, chair dips, curls, military presses, shrugs and squats, lunges. 
  • Strength training days should include a short jog in full gear, to acclimate. 
Specific training to prepare should include: 
  • Tool Hoisting (3 floors) 
  • Hot bottle swap 
  • 5 Hose evolutions 
  • Proper Search Techniques 
Candidates should be on a nutritional plan that will prepare them for HEAVY Exertion, including the correct ratio of carbohydrates and proteins. 

We encourage all candidates to be aware of the condition known as: 
Rhabdomyolysis (often shortened to simply "rhabdo") is the rapid breakdown (lysis) of skeletal muscle(rhabdomyo) due to injury to muscle tissue. The muscle damage may be caused by physical (e.g., crush injury), chemical, or biological factors. The destruction of the muscle leads to the release of the breakdown products of damaged muscle cells into the bloodstream; some of these, such as myoglobin (a protein), are harmful to the kidney and may lead to acute kidney failure. 

Candidates must meet the minimum requirements for a basic firefighter, as defined by the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council.
